THE BEST LOCAL CHOICE: Excellent choice of hiking trails, picnicking, butterfly garden, and many trails for young and old to select from. Great parking.

Kings Mountain Gateway Trail is situated in a beautiful natural park setting offering a picnic shelter, restrooms, drinking fountains, and parking. Much of the park is heavily wooded and the trail is suitable for hiking and biking. The trail travels through property that was once used for mining and, along the way, you will see two hills made of rock removed from the old quarries. One day, the trail is planned to stretch 8 to 10 miles to connect the city of Kings Mountain, Crowders Mountain State Park, Kings Mountain State Park, Kings Mountain National Military Park, the Overmountain Victory Trail, and the Appalachian Trail. It's currently part of a regional trail network called the Carolina Thread Trail, which will link 15 counties across North and South Carolina. Parking and Trail Access Parking is available at the trailhead about a half-mile south of downtown Kings Mountain at 807 S. Battleground Avenue on the corner of Quarry Road.

Beautiful walking/bike path. It has restrooms at the beginning of trail. Comfortable walking for a newbie and has trailers for the advanced walker as well as fitness apparatus built along the trail. There are benches to sit and talk or catch your breath.
