Where to eat

If you have never experienced New Mexican cuisine, you must try chile (red, green or "Christmas", a mixture of both) before you leave. Prickly pear, sopapillas, calabacitas and carne adovada are some of my favorite New Mexican treats. Below are some of my favorite restaurants to get a taste of New Mexico during your stay.
My favorite spot for a morning chile fix. Try the chorizo breakfast plate "Christmas" style (both red and green chile). Not for the faint of heart, Horseman's Haven's chile is known for bringing the heat. https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g60958-d824757-Reviews-Horseman_s_Haven_Cafe-Santa_Fe_New_Mexico.html

A local staple with a large menu. I'm shouting out Tomasita's for their excellent sopapillas (a type of fried bread, served either sweet or savory) with honey butter. Although I don't drink, Tomasita's in known for their "Swirls" (a mix of frozen margarita and frozen sangria), which I've heard pack a punch. https://tomasitas.com/

THE BEST tacos in Santa Fe. This affordable food truck is a must visit for a quick bite. There's no seating, just walk up and place your order, grab your preferred toppings and enjoy. Their al pastor tacos are divine with homemade spicy green salsa. The truck is only open until 3, so get your taco fix before then. 807 Early St, Santa Fe, NM 87505

What to see in the surrounding great outdoors

My listing is only about a half hour outside the base of the Sangre de Cristo mountain range, which is home to Ski Santa Fe and many incredible ski basin hikes (fantastic in the fall, spring and summer time) and around two hours by car to fantastic geographical sites, national monuments and such outerworldy scenes you won't see anywhere else but New Mexico.
Home and studio of the great Georgia O'Keefe, Ghost Ranch boasts breathtaking scenery and incredibly unique geological formations. Plaza Blanca, another one of my recommendations, is nearby (about 1 hr 15 min from my listing). https://www.ghostranch.org/

The San Antonio Hot Springs is a great place to relax in the natural warm pools and take in the scenery. It's a small hike to get in to, but worth it. Just over 2 hours from my listing. You will pass through the Valles Caldera, a national preserve and inactive volcanic caldera, on your way. https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/new-mexico/san-antonio-hot-springs
