There are several restaurants within 15 miles. One is Fina which serves breakfast and lunch. One is a Salvadorian restaurant which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is also a grocery store, hardware all within the community of Eldorado. Santa Fe, of course, has many tourist attractions.

The cabin overlooks the Battle of Glorieta pass at Johnson's Ranch as you walk to the edge of the mesa. As you look down, you will see how to follow below the battle between the confederates and union soldiers in 1862. As you travel from the cabin toward Pecos, you will drive past several old old adobes that were used to treat the wounded from that battle. Once you reach Pecos, just a few miles away, you may want to drive up into the mountains along the Pecos river to Holy Ghost Canyon to see the beautiful ponderosa. This site is worth visiting to provide more information about this civil war battle.. https://www.battlefields.org/learn/maps/battle-glorieta-pass-fight-apache-canyon-march-26-1862

Pecos National Historical Park is a United States National Historical Park in San Miguel and Santa Fe Counties, New Mexico. The park, operated by the National Park Service, encompasses thousands of acres of landscape infused with historical elements from prehistoric archaeological ruins to 19th-century ranches, to a battlefield of the American Civil War. Its largest single feature is Pecos Pueblo, a Native American community abandoned in historic times. First a state monument in 1935, it was made Pecos National Monument in 1965, and greatly enlarged and renamed in 1990. Two sites within the park, the pueblo and the Glorieta Pass Battlefield, are National Historic Landmarks.

It was like time traveling into the days of the Harvey Houses! The Amtrak Station at Lamy is a quick shuttle ride away from Santa Fe. Whether your heading North or South on Amtrak's Southwest Chief, you can catch the train in Lamy and it's so much more interesting and comfortable than making the trek to Albuquerque to connect. The station was recently taken over by volunteers, and the changes are immensely welcome! Walking through the station's doors is like stepping into the past with all of its antique benches, luggage and posters on the wall. Our train was delayed by almost two hours but instead of being bored and impatient all of the passengers were browsing the library with stories of how the Harvey Houses and station came into existence. We were encouraged to enjoy the plentiful snacks and bottled waters that were paid for on the honor system--you donated what you wanted, putting your dollars into a cookie jar. Plus, we were regaled with stories from a local explorer with his archive of petroglyph photos from nearby terrain. And, as if that weren't enough, there was also a lending library where you could take a free book or leave one behind. It was so easy to sit back and imagine all of the passengers from days gone by boarding or exiting the train at Lamy, sitting on the benches where you were sitting and looking at the same posters on the wall that it gave you a sense of time traveling for a moment.

Travel from cabin to Santa Fe

Although the distance from the cabin to Santa Fe is only about 15 to 17 miles, about 5 of those miles are on gravel and dirt roads. This means that you need to plan to spend about 40 minutes to drive to Santa Fe and about 40 minutes to return from Santa Fe.

The cabin provides an opportunity to experience sustainability.

I built my cabin so that people may find what is needed to live comfortably, and to experience Ecotourism. Ecotourism typically involves travel to destinations where flora, fauna, and cultural heritage are the primary attractions. Ecotourism is intended to offer tourists an insight into the impact of human beings on the environment and to foster a greater appreciation of our natural habitats.
