Birdwatching

A quiet and peaceful working fishing port, with excellent wildlife/nature watching opportunities. We have a new Discovery Centre with the Lime Kiln cafe, the William the Conqueror public house, which serves delicious meals, during the daytime and evening or for a superb breakfast , morning coffee and snacks, why not try The Bosun’s Bite? Rye Harbour is a perfect place for cycling, hiking or dog walking, it’s all on the flat, with a large car park, which at the moment is not chargeable, but closes after 8pm. There is also a huge nature reserve at the Harbour, where it’s possible to see migrating birds, waders and sea birds in their natural habitat. The beach is sand and pebbles and is easily accessible.

Beach

One of the most beautiful beaches in the whole of the UK. Big skies, wide golden sands and views for miles and miles. Dog and horse friendly, Camber Sands is a haven for kitesurfing, windsurfing and paddle boarding. There is a dedicated kitesurfing centre directly in the beach and Rye Watersports is close by. Camber has plenty of parking, but can get extremely busy in the height of the summer. There are many food outlets: The Clam in Camber, The Owl, Frankie and Monte’s on the beach, The KitKat cafe and many more. Only a short drive or cycle (there is a cycle path) from our Airbnb.

City/town information

The Ancient Town of Rye is full of history: Royal visits, smuggling, ghosts and hauntings and of course, the famous Dr. Syn. It is a working fishing port, with plenty to see and do. From strolling around the lovely cobbled streets, to climbing the tower at St Mary’s church, to stand in awe of the 360 degree view out over the town rooftops, Romney Marsh and beyond. We have festivals, we have concerts, there is a beautiful little Kino Cinema, we have Rye Bonfire and of course the famous Rye International Jazz and Music festival which draws people from all over the world. Rye is also the home of the famous Mermaid Inn, which is definitely worth a visit. We have a good and reliable public transport system and London is easily accessible, as is the Eurostar - only a short train ride away. There are good opportunities for cycling, hiking, birdwatching, fishing and we also have a fully equipped sports centre and pool for the more sporty folk. Rye has something for everyone. Come and see for yourself?
