If you are a nature lover, this place is a must. About 35 minutes from the home, off 75N near Sarasota. Great place for hiking, boating (if you dare), camping, wildlife viewing and boat tours on the lake for gator sightings. Plenty of places to park and walk, see gators under the bridges on sunny days. Bring water and comfortable shoes. The boat tour is fun, you will see gators! Water birds, turtles and wild boars are common friends to see as well. Makes for a great half day.

On one side you have the beach with the best shark tooth collecting on earth, and the other is a natural trail bordered by the intercoastal. Walk the natural trails or the pavement of the intercoastal walking path. By far, our favorite beach. Drive to Sharky's Pier/Restaurant and keep going til the road ends. You'll love the entrance drive with sand dunes and cabbage palms! Use the florida snow shovel in the garage for collecting sharks teeth. By the way, the shell shop in Venice has bags of them for $2 if you want to bring some home for the grandkids.

Pleasant walking with views of the beach, next to Sharky's if you want to include the pier in your walk. Also, if you are missing your pup on vacation, walk over to the Paws Park which is a dog beach. Only in Venice do the pups get their own beach. Peaceful, picnic areas and just a stroll away from the pier on one side and Casperson Beach on the other.
