Alkham Valley is an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It has stunning views of green pasture and woodland; on chalk downland, which eventually leads to the cliffs!
You can walk to this park in under 15 minutes- and totally off- road as well! This is a most popular park that has recently had over £ 3 million of lottery money spent! It has a tea room, two play grounds, gardens, abbey ruins, a river, lakes, bbq area, refreshments, a paddling area & you might spot a kingfisher! Dogs are welcome too.
You could make a long time of it or just quickly pop down for an hour.

Walking across Kearsney Park from Chilton Farmyard, you can find the local Co-op, Chinese takeaway, post office and chemist. It also has the railway station, which means that you don’t have to own a car to enjoy a stay at Chilton Farmyard!

This is a lovely pub that serves tasty, well thought out dishes and unusual bar snacks. They always tempt you with an on the house mini cup of soup before your meal!
They welcome families and dogs 🐾🐾
They offer scratch cards to customers to use next time so please look in our breakfast room to see if there has been a voucher left by a previous guest for you to use!

The food is good here; particularly for vegetarians. It is a large country pub about 20 minutes away, on busy nights, they may well be able to fit you in!

Kingsdown RoadLovely beach where dogs are always welcome. It’s lovely to visit all year round and is a stunning walk down to it ( not suitable for people with mobility problems) Good for swimming, fossils, finding pretty worn coloured glass, walking and so on.

This is the extra 90 acres of land that was added to the UK when they dug the Channel Tunnel. When they began to reclaim it, about 30 different species of plants were sown but now there are over 200. With that come the birds and other animals.
There is a wide expanse of concrete and a protecting sea wall. The whole place is accessible, smooth paths for prams or wheelchairs or just easy walking.
There is a refreshment kiosk, toilets and an education centre. You can only enter by coming in via a tunnel but even if your mobile tells you that you are in France, you are not!

A lovely beach where we often swim. The Zetland Arms pub is right on the beach and it’s just a lovely place.

A lively place full of funky shops, all the stuff that you don’t need! Honestly though, the Creative Quarter is full of creative people with really individual shops. At the bottom is the harbour with lots of places to eat and many other things going on.

After a life jacket lesson, you’ll enjoy a speedy boat ride with the wind in your face. It’s great to view the continuous coastline, especially the famous white cliffs. Later you reach whichever destination and watch the seals , walk on the sand etc before enjoying an even speedier ride back again 😃
We have been to see the seals at the mouth of the river Stour and also to visit Goodwin Sands. ( Goodwin Sands was like being dropped off on an empty planet and was amazing however, you can only go when the tide is right and the weather too- we were lucky)

Favourite Walks
We have so many walks from our door, some are suggested here.
Many guests like to go for a walk, especially those who bring their dog. To walk to the ruin of St Radigund’s Abbey gives a direction to the walk. It would take about 30 minutes to get to the Abbey, walking up to the woods above the farm, through the woods and pop out the other side and the abbey can be seen.
(Many more footpaths lead out from here as well)
