Yankee magazine names it one of the 10 prettiest towns in Maine.
MarKel's Bakehouse has some excellent breakfast foods. They are still open for lunch and dinner options too!
Dyce Head Light is a historic lighthouse accessible by a foot path.
Ft. Madison right on the water is a chance to see Maine's coast on the remaining grass bunkers from the early 1800's.
The Breeze and Castine Variety also provides a quaint location for a quick lunch or take-out.

During the country's infancy, Maine was repeatedly involved in northeast border disputes with British Canada. In fact, the area between Castine and the rich lumber city of Bangor was invaded and occupied by the British during the American Revolution and the War of 1812. Fort Knox was established in 1844 to protect the Penobscot River Valley against a possible future British naval incursion.

Beth Pancoe Aquatic Center holds a great public pool with water slides and splash pads.

In the summer months, Bangor is home to the American Folk Festival and many outdoor concerts.
