Tiny funky bar with overflowing atmosphere. Scuzzy and indie and great. Used to have a couple of characterful on-site pets...both now sadly departed, but cosy atmosphere remains. Bands often play out back.

Nice pub in residential area 10 mins walk from Strand Building. Live jazz on Sunday afternoons. Bar food and good beer. Vintage 1930s deco in one half. Beautiful hanging baskets in summer.

Wonderful Norwegian bar and restaurant in the original Hackney Central station building. Large and loud it's great for young folks and has another bar with club upstairs. (I've not tried the food.)

Sightseeing
National Trust property at the end of our road, the oldest house in Hackney. Some parts built in 1535 with Tudor panelling. Fascinating different rooms. Nice cafe.

Beautifully presented museum showing rooms and homes over the ages. The buiding itself is fascinating anf used to be an alms house. It's recently undergone an extension & is next to Hoxton station.

Sunday market 11am-4pm, funky home-made cushions, yummy food stalls, nik-naks, bits n bobs. Good atmosphere & this shopping street is going up in the world.

Wonderful gem in the heart of the big city. Cute little animals and a cafe which often features them. (Yes, really. Zero food miles.) Great little projects. Easy to access on a great cycle route.

Historic theatre that puts on many suitable performances for children & adults, including the Christmas panto. Beautiful inside decor on a par with the best West End theatres only 15 mins walk away.

Beautiful& magnificent old church with lovely churchyard grounds which are completely accessible to the public and indeed form popular walk/cycle cut-throughs to Hackney town centre. Kids' playground.

Love love love this place! Friendly staff, very reasonably priced food for breakfast, brunch, lunch or even an early light evening meal (pizza, etc). Wonderful cakes and pastries. Not the best coffee in the world but passable, and worth it for the food and atmosphere.

So I've never actually shopped or eaten there myself but everyone raves about it! (vegans and veggies do! I am sure it is great for everyone). A nice little walk away, and you can enjoy walking through Hackney Down on the way, with the wonderful mosaics (see if you can find the awesome massive freize of animals...) and a little mini orchard on the way.

So I've never actually shopped or eaten there myself but everyone raves about it! (vegans and veggies do! I am sure it is great for everyone). A nice little walk away, and you can enjoy walking through Hackney Down on the way, with the wonderful mosaics (see if you can find the awesome massive freize of animals...) and a little mini orchard on the way.
