Neighborhoods

This is a small “mill town” that formed along the Allegheny River very close to the city of Pittsburgh. After experiencing economic hardship when the steel industry left the region, Millvale is now having a renaissance! You’ll find great restaurants, breweries, bars, shops, and bakeries here! The town is very walkable with very cheap and often free parking.

Lawrenceville is arguably the coolest and most popular neighborhood in the city right now. Another historic neighborhood like Millvale, it is further along in its renewal. Its main thoroughfare, Butler Street, is the home to countless shops and restaurants and everything else you can think of. You can plan to spend a whole afternoon just walking and window shopping here. There is a ton more stuff here than just the few faves I will list, including candle making, vintage clothing, a glass blowing shop, tattoo parlors, and old school movie theater, a historic bowling alley, and so much more.

Sightseeing

Of course, the downtown “Golden Triangle” is an important stop for anyone visiting the region. The city is one of America’s most livable and features numerous shops, restaurants, great architecture and views, city parks, and a bustling cultural district full of plays, the symphony and more. I will list a few personal favorite spots in the city, but please look for more; the area has so much to offer!

Food scene

o One of the whole city’s most popular breweries, you will find tons of activity here, especially on the weekend. In the warmer months the large outdoor courtyard fills with beer lovers and their four legged friends. There is also an indoor bar, and usually a food truck is parked at the side if you are hungry.

o Pamela’s is one of Pittsburgh’s most iconic restaurants – most especially for its delicious breakfast options. You’ll find savory hash and scrambles, and their signature sweet “crepe pancakes” that can be filled with fruits and other tasty stuff. My favorite Pamela’s location is in the Strip District, but the Millvale spot is often less busy and is just so close to our house!

o Fl.2 has held the title of my favorite restaurant in town for years now. Located in one of the nicest hotels in the city, this restaurant is a show stopper. From gorgeous interior spaces to exquisite high-end “modern American” cuisine, this place is always good. It is pricier, but perfect if you’re looking for a very nice dinner. I recommend reservations, although you can likely walk in and find a spot at the large bar.

This 155 acre nature preserve is only about 3 mins from the bnb and features 3 miles of trails. This site was just recently saved by a community effort working with the Allegheny Land Trust, and now will be preserved for generations to come!
