Ash Cottage is cosy & well equipped with stunning views, set down a quiet country lane & is surrounded by farmland. Ideal for walkers, perfect for families or a romantic get-away! Part of a barn conversion, deceptively spacious, with a large, communal, rear south facing garden, & a small brook running alongside. Pet friendly too. What more could you want!

Seatown beach on the Jurassic coast is about 15 minutes walk away. Great for fossil hunting! There are 3 good pubs all within a short walk.

Popular, cosy cottage, under the new ownership of David and Julie from January 2020 and new to Airbnb January 2021. During 2020, Ash Cottage has received nothing but excellent reviews with an average of 4.9 out of 5 on another site. Ash Cottage is a well equipped 2 bedroom country cottage, with stunning views, but just 10 minutes walk to the Jurassic coast, the beach at Seatown and the South West Coastal path. There are excellent views of the coastal path from the living room, and of course the south facing private patio and the communal rear garden.

Ash Cottage is situated in the midst of very quiet and peaceful National Trust farmland. Ash Cottage has French windows in the lounge opening onto a private sunny south-facing patio that borders the large communal lawn that is shared with the other five properties which make up this stone barn conversion. Table, chairs, parasol and a barbeque are all provided for use on the patio. The lawn is edged by a pretty stream and breathtaking views over rolling Dorset hills. It is just a short stroll through the fields to the beach and the renowned Anchor Pub at Seatown. With the Coastal Path on it's doorstep and plenty of walks inland as well, it is a paradise for walkers! Also don’t forget that as well as the Anchor Pub at Seatown, in Chideock there are also The George and The Clock pubs to choose from for a drink or a meal out.

Ash Cottage is a split level, spacious barn conversion with a homely feel. From the front door there is a hall area with a bedroom leading off to the right. There is a half flight of stairs down to the roomy lounge / dining area with a well equipped, open plan kitchen. From the hall, there is also a half flight of stairs which leads up to the master bedroom and the bathroom. The bathroom has a full sized bath and over bath power shower.
Wifi broadband is throughout the cottage.

The large master bedroom at the rear has wonderful views and offers a king sized bed. Bedroom one at the front of the cottage also has a king sized bed plus a single bed in addition. The beds are made up with fresh linen and towels for your stay. Both bedrooms have plenty of storage space. Hairdryers are provided.

The kitchen is equipped with electric hob and oven, microwave, toaster, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine (tablets are provided) and plenty of cooking utensils so if wanted, you can produce a gourmet meal! An iron and ironing board are available.

The lounge / dining area has a smart TV, DVD player, CD player/radio, comfy chairs, sofa, dining table and chairs. There is a selection of family games and books. The French windows open out to the sunny patio which is the perfect position to soak up the scenery and tranquility of the cottage's position. At night the silence is typically only broken by the trickle of the shallow brook running alongside the rear garden and the faint noise of the sea. On cloudless nights, simply stunning night views of the stars are normal at Ash Cottage, due to the lack of light pollution.

There is 1 designated free parking space for 1 car.

One well behaved dog welcome. Please note dogs are not allowed on the furniture or beds and must not be left alone in the cottage. If you visit any of the three local pubs, they are all dog friendly.

Please note that Ash Cottage is a non smoking / non vaping cottage.
Ash Cottage lies on the outskirts of the small, picturesque and historic village of Chideock. Known for it’s attractive golden stone and whitewash cottages, many of which are thatched. As mentioned above, nearby to Ash Cottage there are two pubs in the village. The George Pub has excellent food and regular live music evenings plus serves wood fired pizzas every Thursday evening. The Clock Pub is a more traditional pub serving good food and shows live sports and regular quiz evenings. There is also a well stocked village stores that also incorporates a Post Office. St Giles Church dates back to the 13th century and has a rich history.

At neighbouring Seatown, many fossils can be found on the shingle beach. The Anchor Inn who’s beer garden overlooks the beach, is a destination gastro pub serving modernised English classical food.

From our cottage, you can walk along the South West Coast Path and climb up Golden Cap, which at 627 feet / 191 metres height, is the highest point on the south coast and has breathtaking views. You can walk through the fields to the beach at Seatown. For the more adventurous, take the Coastal path to West Bay (of Broadchurch TV series fame) to the east, or to Lyme Regis to the west. There is an excellent bus service along the coast for those that prefer the easier option one (or even both!) ways.

The market town of Bridport is 2 miles away and has markets on both Wednesdays and Saturdays selling a variety of local produce, antiques, bric a brac and clothes.

Bridport is a vibrant artistic town with lots of individual shops including art galleries, coffee shops, restaurants, excellent baker's shops, as well as the convenience of a Waitrose and a Morrisons. The Bridport Arts Centre and The Electric Palace Cinema offer films, theatre, music and comedy. Bridport Carnival is in August, whilst the Hat Festival is in September and the Literary Festival is in November.

West Bay is Bridport’s harbour and marks the start of Chesil Beach. Unpretentious fish and chip kiosks are the lunch venue of choice. Above the pebble beach towers the famous golden sandstone cliffs.

To the west of Chideock lies the small town of Charmouth, which features a pebble beach, fossil rich cliffs and the Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre that provides interactive displays and everything there is to know about fossils!

The popular seaside town of Lyme Regis is a short drive away and boasts it’s famous fishing harbour and Cobb, where you can walk up Granny’s teeth, if you dare! These are stone steps jutting out for the side of the Cobb’s inner wall. The town and seafront are known for their quaint buildings, sheltered sandy beach and of course, fossil hunting! As well as plenty of independent shops, Lyme Regis also has a theatre, a water mill, gardens, museum and hosts a multitude of events.

The area has an array of wonderful restaurants. Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall’s River Cottage and Mark Hix’s Oyster and Fish House (Lyme Regis) to name but two, are just 15 - 30 minutes drive from Ash Cottage.

“ A wonderful stay in a super property!”

Ash Cottage is lovely - extremely comfortable, well-presented and very well equipped with everything you could possibly need for your stay. It was just perfect for us! We took full advantage of the amazing weather to enjoy the private terrace with wonderful views of the hills for breakfast, evening drinks and to stargaze! The cottage is ideally placed for bird watching, fossil hunting and walking - short walk to beach with local pub and equally short walk in opposite direction to the village with other pubs and local shop. We managed to walk some of the coastal path in both directions from the cottage but also went in the car to Lyme Regis, Beer and many other beautiful spots. Communication with David and Julie was first-class and they have put so much thought into the comfort and well-being of their renters - thanks to both of you. Our only regret was not renting the cottage for longer - we will definitely return!

“A gem”
The cottage is very spacious. Much bigger than it looks from outside or the photos, it is comfortable, very well equipped and in a lovely situation. Beautiful views from the cottage and easily walkable to the beach and pubs to eat. There is also a useful Spar shop in the village. We ate in quite a few times, due to Covid, and everything was there for cooking. Unusual in a holiday cottage.

“Goldilocks Cottage”
Just right. Not too big or too small. Not too rural, or too urban. Sat between the coast and the country. This property was ideal for us at this time in the year, for our family and our dog. We walked for miles and cooked great food in the kitchen, falling asleep to a new level of silence on comfy beds. With the sea so close, the location was beautiful, and we were able to remain entertained at home on the days where the weather wasn't so calm. The owners were first class. I'd recommend looking elsewhere, so it's easier for us to return.

“Dream location for coast and countryside”
You could not ask for a better location from which to explore the delights of the Dorset coast and countryside. Some of the highlights of our stay included long walks around the Golden Cap and the sandstone cliffs at Chesil Beach; fossil-hunting near Lyme Regis, swimming at Seatown and Eype and exploring Thomas Hardy country around Dorchester. The cottage itself is pleasant and functional. It isn't "special" in term of architectural or historical features but it is practical and excellent value for money. It is not as remote as we had expected from the pictures: it is the second of row of terraced cottages and part of a small collection of holiday lets on the grounds of a farm. You are definitely aware of other holiday makers around you, but the thick walls of the cottage meant that we were not in the slightest bit disturbed by this. Everything was neat and clean and the owners had clearly put a lot of thought into complying with CoVID safety guidelines. Communication with the owners was exceptionally good. David and Julie answered all questions promptly and were very friendly. Given that our booking included a change of ownership and the uncertainty of the pandemic, it was really impressive how smooth the whole process was.
