In the ’90s, three Portobello Road Market stallholders took a chance on an abandoned shop in the shadow of West London’s brutalist landmark, Trellick Tower. The shop floor is divided into their three-distinct styles and is an Aladdin’s cave of premium, historical designer pieces from Chanel through to Ossie Clark and Vivienne Westwood. This is the fashion industry’s favourite place to spend precious time picking up priceless pieces. Once I encountered New York’s doyenne of fashion, Iris Apfel, there while she was in town.
