MOTI shows photos of St. James City from the turn of the last century when that town at the foot of Pine Island was briefly a thriving resort and later site of an ill-fated hemp factory.
Small local Pine Island museum with an eclectic collection, which is a labor of love for its volunteers.
THIS IS A GREAT WAY TO LEARN OUR HISTORY, WE HAD FAMOUS PIRATES HERE , LIKE BLACK BEARD.

“Honestly, the service stinks but the location on the water is great, they serve drinks and you can eat al fresco. If you're up for a long bike ride, it's a destination spot by the marina.”

“The food is excellent and service is very friendly. Not just a BBQ joint, the menu offers Sushi, Cuban sandwiches, fresh seafood and a Prime Rib on Friday night that is to die for....get there early!”

“Pine Island gem! Galt Preserve is a habitat restoration project on 265 acres that is successfully supporting native plants, birds and animals on southern Pine Island. Often a good place to see Florida butterflies. Galt features 2.5 miles of hiking trails and boardwalks, a kayak and canoe launch, fishing pier, picnic pavilions, restroom and a paved parking area. The preserve consists of 12 plant communities, including mangrove swamp and mesic flatwoods. The preserve is also home to a variety of bird and animal species, including bald eagle, bobcat and American alligator. Located just south of the much smaller Pine Island Flatwoods Preserve. ”
