City/town information
This large town offers a great day out spent browsing the shops and galleries, enjoying great food and wine or picnicking and walking in one of its many beautiful green spaces. Dunorlan park is a 20-minute walk from the town centre and is perfect for picnics, walks and has huge open spaces. Calverley Gardens is central and a great location to grab a takeaway sourdough pizza from Estro and sit in the park. The Pantiles are home to a variety of independent shops and cafes, art galleries and eateries and is probably the most attractive and stylish part of the town – it has a particularly European feel. There is a car park on the corner of Major York’s Road perfect for accessing this particular area. There are many restaurants that we would recommend but just to list a few are Thackeray’s for a relaxed form of fine dining, and really high-quality local produce. Kitsu and Kiko both serve the most delicious sushi and noodles around, and Vittle and Swig serves great food from brunch right through to evening meals.
At the opposite end of Tunbridge Wells is the Bicycle Bakery a great spot for sourdough bread, ‘cruffins’ and various baked goods. This area is called Camden Road and is also home to a great vegan café called The Plant Base.

It is home to Harvey’s brewery, the oldest independent brewery in Sussex, and the first ever Bills restaurant opened in 2001 which is definitely worth a visit for breakfast (you may want to book online).

1 Warren Farm LnA large mixed woodland with giant boulders and substantial cliffs, a great place to admire a range of butterfly species and a huge variety of other wildlife. It is the perfect location for a walk and a lunch at the local pub, the Nevil Crest and Gun just down the road, or the Huntsman near Eridge station.
A huge reservoir that offers an amazing range of outdoor activities including a 12- mile scenic walk, a range of water sports, cycling and fishing as well as two eateries; a café and a restaurant. There is parking available on site but it is around £5. `Local village Wadhurst is lovely for a stroll, there are coffee shops and deli’s too.

Wych CrossA great location for walking and taking in the spectacular views of the Sussex countryside. It was originally a deer hunting forest and is now the largest free public space in the South East. It is most well known for being the home of Winnie-the-Pooh. There are a wealth of local pubs and restaurants nearby particularly in Forest Row itself. On the outskirts of the forest you will find a little pub called The Hatch Inn, serving great food. If we are just going for a walk we often use the Black Hill car park as it is fairly quiet and not too far from Crowborough, parking is free.
The third highest point in the South Downs gives this location some of the best views across East Sussex. It is a beautiful spot for walking across the downs and then down the hill and into the village, where you will find a great lunch at The Bull pub. It also happens to be on the London to Brighton cycle route so you will often find lots of cyclists getting in some practice on the steep incline.

The third highest point in the South Downs gives this location some of the best views across East Sussex. It is a beautiful spot for walking across the downs and then down the hill and into the village, where you will find a great lunch at The Bull pub. It also happens to be on the London to Brighton cycle route so you will often find lots of cyclists getting in some practice on the steep incline.

Part of the Elite Pubs group, newly renovated, this is a great spot for good food and a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. They have a nice garden with a great view across the valley, proper pizzas and a large, varied menu including a great hanging chicken kebab.

Just 10 minutes down the road this pub offers a great variety of steak dishes, as well as fish and vegetarian options. The food is really great, and reasonably good value. The staff are really friendly but the service can be a little slow at times. They have dining indoors and outdoors, and again they serve Harvey’s beer too.

The Middle House in Mayfield is popular with locals - and the food is again, good pub food. Mayfield is a pretty village and very near. They have a terrace bar to the rear with delightful views. They offer Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner so it is definitely worth checking out!

A small 1 acre vineyard that is based in a single field. Run by a lovely family from Lewisham they make nice wine and it is worth visiting and doing the tour and the tasting.
It can be tricky to find, you have to park in the layby and then walk down a track (labelled vineyard with a small sign). If you travel through Rotherfield towards Eridge and then turn left onto the main road the layby is before the sat nav says you are there and is labelled with a large P for parking.
Wildwood Vineyard
Eridge RoadA small 1 acre vineyard that is based in a single field. Run by a lovely family from Lewisham they make nice wine and it is worth visiting and doing the tour and the tasting.
It can be tricky to find, you have to park in the layby and then walk down a track (labelled vineyard with a small sign). Neighbourhoods
Rotherfield is a sweet village, probably the one closest to us. It has two nice pubs; The Kings Arms which has a great garden and The Catts which is alot smaller. It has a small cafe serving things like bacon sandwiches as well as two cafes slightly out of town listed in this guide (Deer Park & Highgate Florist). The millenium green is a lovely spot for walking and you can park there too.

Uckfield has a large Waitrose and a Tesco, it has a couple of 'greasy spoon' style breakfast cafes and useful shops including Boots.
It has a lovely old cinema called The Picture House and a large Pizza Express.

Crowborough is the nearest town to us. It has several supermarkets (Tesco, Waitrose, Lidl and Morrisons), some good butchers and hair dressers.
There is a cute little horse box selling coffee and sandwiches at the top of the town called Brewbox and a great florist (also in a horsebox) called Peonies from Pluto. If you are passing I would definitely recomend both.
There is also a nice wine shop called Alteius which normally sells Hastings Gin which again is worth a purchase!
