Unique, stunning, (and very deep!) Lake Willoughby has beaches, trails, restaurants, and taverns in the heart of the Northeast Kingdom. A little over an hour's drive, but a more pleasant and scenic outing you're not likely to find.

If you get yourself to the Underhill State Park, you will find several trails that lead to what we call the "Chin" the highest point on the mountain. If you head to the end of Stevensville Rd, you'll find other trails, some of which bring you to the "Forehead." If you're really ambitious, you can hike across the flat (-ish) top of the mountain from one to the other. If you really aren't ambitious or just not the hiking type, you can drive up the Toll Road from Stowe for a (steep) fee. It's worth it for the view. The top of the mountain has large rocky expanses and rare alpine tundra plants. (We consider it "Our" mountain, having grown up under it.)
