Hiking Trails
This is the closest waterfall to our Airbnb in the Tremont area, approximately 25-30 minute drive. Spruce Flats Falls is an easy to moderate 2 mile out and back hike. There is a small gift shop and restroom in the parking lot.

For those wanting to do a strenuous hike, consider Mount LeConte. There are a few different trails to get there. My preference is to hike via the Alum Cave Trail. Easy to moderate trail in Tremont area follows along the cascading water. At just .7 mile….easy hike…. there is a bench to sit and enjoy the view of a beautiful waterfall cascade. If you choose to walk 4 miles you will arrive at the Indian Flats Falls.

It takes around 45 minutes to an hour to get to the entrance from our Airbnb depending on traffic. Traffic around Cades Cove can be busy and slow so allow plenty of time. Abrams Falls is a 5 mile out and back hike located in Cades Cove.
Of note: in the summer months the loop is closed to cars on Wednesdays so that hikers and bikers can travel without the usual traffic. Bike rental is available but we suggest going early.

From the parking lot, seven miles west of Newfound Gap, walk the steep half-mile path to the 54-foot observation tower for a 360-degree view of the Park. Sunrises and sunsets are spectacular. Clingmans Dome is a good drive from here (about an hour from Gatlinburg) but worth it.
If you want a quick hike that is a short drive from here, head to the Look Rock Observation Tower. It's an easy hike, only 1/2 mile uphill on a paved trail through the woods to the concrete tower that will give you a panoramic view of the Smokies. Great for all ages!

The 20 mile Maryville -Alcoa Greenway is a nice paved foot and cycle path for all levels of experience. One of my favorite sections is in the Sandy Springs Park area across from the tennis courts. Walk across Cedar Street and follow the Pistol Creek. It feels like you are visiting the mountains with the babbling creek and winding trail. Another great section which is newer is from Clayton Homes to Springbrook Park
