Favorite Local Eats

Our Favorite Local Eats Family friendly Pronto Pup ($) - delicious Pronto Pups (invented in Rockaway Beach!). Lots of vegetarian options too! Offshore Grill & Coffeehouse ($$) - this is our favorite place to grab a nice dinner in Rockaway. Huge menu and delicious food but get there early during rush hour or you'll have to wait for a spot. Salmonberry Saloon ($$) - a quick 12 minute drive to Wheeler gets you to this great restaurant and bar. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Great decor, big menu and amazing view (right on the water). Bars / Taverns Roadhouse - great for nachos and a beer (plus sports if you're into that kind of thing) Lakeside Highway - karaoke on Friday and Saturday night. Best KJ ever. Breakfast Beach Bakeshop - fresh sweet and savory breakfast treats. The owners are super sweet. Go support them. Offshore (above) has an awesome breakfast too.
Quick, fun and inexpensive food with lots of options (pickle, zucchini dogs and veggie dogs for the vegetarians, spicy pups and cheese pups for the non hot dog eaters, etc.)

Things to do!

Here are some things to do that we don't have links for but wouldn't want you to miss out on! - Visit a Giant Tree: Update - there is a new trailhead just south of town (before pronto pup) with a parking lot. The old way to get there: From the south end of town turn east on South Sixth Street. Drive four blocks and turn south on Dolphin Street. Drive a short way to the end of the street and park in the neighborhood near the city's trailhead. Take an unmarked and easy to miss trail departing from the dead end and you are in for a surprise. There, in the middle of the residential section of the town, is an ancient cedar bog which contains some extremely large and old Western Red Cedars. - Gaze at The Famous Twin Rocks Formation: After millions of years of erosion, the twin sea stacks of Twin Rocks were connected at one point to form a single structure. Over time and under pressure, the sand in this sea bed consolidated into sandstone. Then, as the earth's tectonic plates crashed into each other, they pushed up the coastal mountains and fractured and tilted up a ridge of sandstone along the coastline. Over time, the tides and surf wore away the softer portions of this sandstone, leaving behind the massive rocks we see today. Ride the Steam Train You can take the antique steam train from Garibaldi to Rockaway (runs up and down HWY 101. Other fun things we don’t have much info on but seem good Hike or mountain bike the logging roads in the forest behind the house. Enjoy a panoramic view of the ocean from the top of the hills Charter fishing for lingcod, rockfish and halibut in Garibaldi Rent motor boats and go crabbing in Garabaldi and Nehalem Bay Fishing in the many lakes right in town (Lake Lytle, Spring Lake, Nedonna Lake) Kayak in the many waterways throughout Tillamook County Stock up on jerky and pepperoni at the Tillamook Smoker outlet store in Bay City Pedal the Tillamook Bay Railroad with Oregon Coast Railriders in Garibaldi Drive North through Wheeler, Nehalem, Manzanita, Cannon Beach, Seaside and Astoria Drive South through Tillamook, Neskowin, Lincoln City, Depoe Bay and Newport

Walk to get Salt Water Taffy. It’s about 20-30 minutes each way. You can walk on the beach, the train tracks (if the train isn’t running) or the road. There are a few candy shops, The Crow shop (vintage & hip, new locally sourced stuff) and some other cool stuff to look at too.
