A hydroponic farm and favorite in the area for local, homemade food. This cafe is popular for lunch and also sells fresh produce. It's probably ~5 miles straight down the road from my place.

One of the only restaurants in the area that sources their seafood locally. They do import their shellfish from the northeastern US, but this restaurant is a real gem for the downtown food scene. Great atmosphere.

Parks & Nature
THE place to go if you want to see manatees. Especially during the winter season. It also happens to be accessible from the river in my neighborhood or by car if you drive down Palm Beach Blvd. Kayak rentals are available here and there's also a small fishing pier that extends into the Orange River.

The most iconic beach in the area and one of the top ranked beaches in Florida. Sanibel island is not overrun with hotels and tourist spots like Fort Myers, so it has a very down-to-earth feel. Traffic can be heavy, so make sure to avoid heavy traffic times (lunchtime and sunset).

I actually had a friend propose to his wife here! Venturing to "The Slough" is a good choice in the summer as it provides a little buffer from the heat. They also offer midnight tours periodically where you can get in the water with a local guide for a real intense experience.
