The cottage is situated about a mile from Heathfield town centre. This is a small but well serviced town with a selection of supermarkets (Co-op, Sainsbury's, Waitrose, Tesco Express) as well as a selection of independent food shops (butcher, baker, greengrocer, Cucolo delicatessen, Zero - no plastic refill shop), as well as a couple of antique and modern furniture shops amongst others.
On Tuesdays Heathfield market also takes place where you can find fresh fish as well as a whole load of curiosities, vintage and antique items. It also holds an auction sale every Tuesday morning for anyone wanting to pick up an unusual bargain!
In Heathfield you will also find the Heathfield Tavern for pub food, Pilio for Greek, an Indian restaurant, a couple of cafe bistros as well as a good selection of takeaways.

If you want to eat in Heathfield there's the Heathfield Tavern on the Hailsham Road, Pilio's Greek Restaurant in Station Road, Heathfield Tandoori and Heathes on the high street.
There's also a wealth of takeaways to choose from, most of whom will deliver.
Middle House Hotel at Mayfield offers good pub food with spectacular views. There's also a good delicatessen and a couple of cafes
