The best pubs and bars serving real ale in Cambridge
Proper old fashioned pub with wood-panelled walls. Great real ale and dog friendly. The locals are excellent and have an annual apple-crumble baking competition

Great selection of ales, including Brewhouse brewed Cambridge ones and quality food, British with a twist. Don't miss the beer garden and potting shed tucked away at the back!

Not only do they have good beer but there's a kicking little gig venue out back - tickets pretty reasonable and some up and coming names and tribute bands to be found here!

Certainly one of the dinkiest pubs to be found. Count yourself lucky to get a seat and sit back and swill a fine ale, admiring the rowing memorabilia

A very quirky backstreet establishment with over 50 rums to complement it's beer - try the coriander ale! Sit in the cubby hole at the back and draw pictures to pin to the wall!

My favourite eating places
Since I am a vegetarian, this list is largely biased to places that serve imaginative plant based food!
Crazy healthy vegan food with flair and imagination. There is a slightly larger restaurant at CamYoga on Mitcham's corner

Outdoor spots to while away your time
This is a great bar but very small - the real draw is that you can take your beer outside to sit on the wall by the weir or on the grass on Sheep's Green opposite. If you're lucky you will get to say hello to the cows that makethsi common land their home!

The place in Cambridge to hang out this summer - bring along your frisbee or just people watch - you can see circus skills under the trees most days.

Walk the historic meadows where the Blomsbury set once hung out, take a dip in the Cam, bring beers and lounge on the river bank. It's a classic place for locals and tourists alike. You may also want to visit the quaint village of Grantchester and the Orchard Tearooms.
