“Designed by architect Isaac Rapp in 1917, it is an example of Pueblo Revival Style architecture, and one of Santa Fe's best-known representations of the synthesis of Native American and Spanish Colonial design styles. The facade was based on the mission churches of Acoma, San Felipe, Cochiti, Laguna, Santa Ana and Pecos. The museum’s art collection includes over 20,000 paintings, photographs, sculptures, prints, drawings and mixed-media works. Notable artists in the collection include Ansel Adams, Gustave Baumann, Georgia O'Keeffe, Fritz Scholder, T. C. Cannon, Bruce Nauman, Luis Jimenez, Maria Martinez, members of the Ashcan School, Los Cinco Pintores, Transcendental Painting Group, and the Taos Society of Artists.”

“The Spanish Colonial Arts Society collections were initiated in 1928. Today with 3,000 objects, the collections are the most comprehensive compilation of Spanish Colonial art of their kind. Dating from the Middle Ages to the New Millennium, the collections span centuries in art, place and time. Among the various media featured are santos (painted and sculpted images of saints,) textiles, tinwork, silverwork, goldwork, ironwork, straw appliqué, ceramics, furniture, books and more. All combined, the collections represent the artistic history and ongoing evolution of Hispano culture in New Mexico while firmly establishing its important place within the global arts landscape. You should visit New Mexico Museum of Art, Georgia O'Keeffe, Site Santa Fe, NM Museum of Art, Santa Fe Childrens' Museum, IAIA-Institute of American Indian Art, Museum of International Folk Art, Museum of Indian Arts and Culture. Museum of Spanish Colonial Art and I missed some. Museum Hill in Santa Fe is the home to 4 world class museums, a wonderful cafe and a botancial garden. It is accessible by bus (called the Santa Fe trails) or The Santa Fe Pick up free shuttle service from downtown Santa Fe. Check out santafe.org for great info.”
