Kill House derives from an ancient and very large area called "Kill" which means "Church" in Gaelic. Situated right on the edge of the Sky Road as part of the famous Wild Atlantic Way, Kill House is surrounded by mature gardens and forms an oasis of serenity and shelter within the heart of Connemara. Connemara is a landscape of wild beauty and without any doubt one of the most spectacular sceneries in all of Europe.
Kill House was built in 1861 and has undergone meticulous and sensitive restoration in the last twenty years. The staircase is original as are many of the floors. Some of the sash windows have survived, others have been replaced with new timber sashes which maintain the elegant character of the house. The owners have furnished it with antique pieces, many dating to the period the property was built. For those who love history the owners have a book on the Adamson family who built the house, which brings you into contact with the Bronte family, Ballinahinch Castle, Queen Victoria's visit there and much more.
