Happy to share our experiences with you.

SEASONS/TRAVEL

If you are travelling with your own transport during September to January,  (being the rainier months) there is a seasonal creek with water that flows to the ocean depending on the tropical rainfall.  With this in mind, the creek does drain quickly and you may have to wait in a nearby restaurant for a half an hour to cross.  Otherwise you can walk across the beach to our hut from Conchas Restaurant on the beach and we can assist.

As most government roads outside San Juan Del Sur are dirt, 4wd during this time is best to access all the beaches. If you do not have transport, we strongly suggest contacting Francisco or Silvio Taxi as they know exactly where we are and are familiar with the seasonal creek.  Where as during the drier months Feb to May most places are 2wd accessible depending on the clearance of the vehicle.

Travelling at night with your own vehicle to Playa Marsella and our beach hut may get confusing.  Google Maps hasn't been updated for years and the original public access is now a private community.  Need to drive the longer way around.  There is a pdf map in the room profile as well as more direction information below.

2 weeks over Xmas/New Year as well as the Easter holidays sees a huge influx of people to the beach communities which are otherwise always sleepy.  Accommodation is booked out quickly and turns to festivities.  Nicaraguans love to celebrate these holy occasions with beach parties, fireworks, parades and music.  The fiestas can last for days and everyone is welcome to participate.  Amazing to see.  Travelling with ear plugs to the beach communities, during the festive times, maybe helpful to some.

WEATHER

If you are not familiar or use to a tropical weather pattern and jungle vegetation:  Suggest a quick google on the subject as during our drier months the landscape changes, and the landscape goes dormant (not dead) to conserve water.   In the dry it is easier to get around in a 2wd vehicle.   After 3 light rains everything starts bouncing back and the jungle awakes again. Tropical rains are warm and generally cloudbursts don't last long.  The rains tend to happen later in the afternoon and overnight.

SELF CATERING

Everyone is welcome to bring supplies, beverages etc and  use the Beach Hut kitchen. Fully equipped with fridges etc.

A few basic Breakfast and Grocery items are available to purchase for self cooking.  ie. Eggs, tomatoes, onions, bread, some fruits, rice, chicken, pasta etc.

The Fruit and veg truck drives out with all the goodies around 9.30am every 5th day.  Can also purchase eggs, bread, chicken, as well as fruit and veg from the Truck.

Also 2kms away is a Nica Grocery Shop "pulperia" with everything that suits a Nica recipe.  Also has shampoo, washing powder, rum etc (various items similar to a mini Nica Supermarket)

WATER SYSTEM

Being 9kms out of San Juan Del Sur we don't have the luxury of town water facilities.  We all have to pump water from individual wells and utilise a gravity fed water system with holding tanks.   When tanks are low from high usage there may be a delay of 15min to pump up the water level to generate pressure.  Please let us know!

RESTAURANTS

Marsella has 6 beach Restaurants which all are within a short walking distance from the front gate.  First one is about 100m and the last one 500m away, with the others staggered in between.  Very handy and open all day if you dont feel like cooking!

We look forward to your visit and sharing your travel stories.

San Juan del Sur, Никарагуа

Playa Marsella is a tranquil beach North of San Juan Del Sur and one beach before Playa Maderas surf beach. Marsella is surrounded by local restaurants and is a considered a swim and fishing beach rather than surfing. With regular public transport and beach shuttles, Playa Marsella is close enough to San Juan but outside enough to be able to relax away from the hustle and bustle.

We are a family of 5 from Australia and moved to Nicaragua, to unplug from the hamster wheel, and grow our 3 children in a rustic Robinson Crusoe Tree House right on the Beach, Playa Marsella. We welcome all relaxed travellers to stay with us in our family tree house to experience the basic but practical Nicaraguan Lifestyle as we have over the years. "No wankers!"
