A spacious, comfortable property just 500 m from the beach and Budle Bay, 1 mile from Bamburgh village with shops, restaurants and pubs. The property is laid out over two floors with large open plan living, dining, kitchen area. Bedrooms and main bathroom are upstairs. Puffin cottage may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties due to a step into the front door (see photos) and children should be confident on stairs.

** CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) ** We are delighted to be reopening on 12th April following the recent Government announcement. In order to comply with the enhanced cleaning procedures on change over days the property will need to be vacated by 10am on the day of your departure. I will ask all guests to strip their beds , empty bins including those in bathrooms and bedrooms and ensure all rubbish is moved outside to the main refuse bin. I will be cleaning the property myself and will be continuing with my usual thorough cleaning procedures but will be adding an extra layer of sanitising all hard surfaces including door knobs, key boxes, light switches etc. Most of our seating is leather/leather look so will also be wiped down. Other items and areas will be sprayed with an anti viral product. All bed linen, towels, mattress protectors and pillow protectors will be changed between guests and where possible items will be washed at 60 degrees. Some decorative soft furnishings will be temporarily put away including bed cushions and sofa rugs. I should point out that it is not possible to put all kitchen items through the dishwasher on changeover day, there simply isn't time but I am asking all guests to make as much use as possible of the dishwasher during their stay. There is always plenty of hand wash and soap in the cottage, if you feel the need to have extra hand sanitiser available for trips out then please bring that with you. We will also be asking guests to notify us immediately if any of their party falls ill either during their stay or within 14 days of departure so that information can be shared appropriately. We hope that these measures will give you confidence to book your holiday with us but please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any specific questions or concerns.

Converted approximately 15 years ago from farm buildings Puffin Cottage is equipped to a high standard offering modern facilities and appliances. Puffin benefits from its own private gated garden and parking area for two cars which is safe and quiet. Approximately 500m walk from the property is beautiful Budle Bay and beach with views across to Lindisfarne Priory on Holy Island with Bamburgh village and its Castle just a mile away. The Cottage is ideally placed for lovers of the sea, vast sandy beaches, castles, wildlife and the countryside. Please note we do not accept pets.

Internally the cottage is furnished and equipped to a high standard. Our aim is that Puffin Cottage offers a homely and relaxing retreat in this beautiful location. The ground floor offers a generous entrance hall and cloakroom leading into a spacious open plan area comprising dining area, kitchen and comfortable lounge with open fire. Oak stairs lead up to the first floor from this room. A utility room with washer/dryer, freezer, microwave and second sink is also accessed from this space. The lounge area is a square sociable space with two comfortable Italian leather settees and separate armchair. A large flat screen SMART TV has access to Freeview and Netflix (own password required). Books and games are also available for guest use, lots of local information for days out and local restaurants is provided. Upstairs there is a spacious Master bedroom with King size double bed and fitted wardrobes and dressing area. A large, bright second bedroom offers versatile sleeping choices for up to four people with two single beds and a superking double which can also be arranged as two single beds if required. (All beds in this room are full adult sized beds) A triple wardrobe and large chest of drawers ensures plenty of storage for clothes and accessories. All beds are made up for your arrival and bathroom towels provided. A modern upstairs bathroom offers a generous shower, wash basin and toilet.

To the front of the property is a private gated garden and patio with table and chairs and charcoal BBQ available for guest use. The garden is a sheltered sun trap and is perfect for games or relaxing on a blanket with a good book. There is also a padlocked shed suitable for bike storage or other sporting equipment. If bringing high value items to store in the shed please ensure they are covered by home or travel insurance as we cannot be liable for loss or damage due to fire or theft and perhaps your own padlocks.

We accept 7 nights stays with Saturday changeovers in main season, short breaks may be available at other times.

This property suits a wide range of groups from friends looking for a relaxing place to spend time, families with children wanting to get to the beach on foot and multi generational families needing comfortable space where everyone can enjoy themselves. Please note this property may not suit groups where someone has limited mobility due to a step from the patio area up to the front door (see photos) and children will need to be confident on stairs as there is no means of closing off the staircase from the general living area.

Previous visitors have commented on how comfortable and welcoming the property is, the high standard of the fixtures and fitting and the fact that the kitchen is equipped with a wide range of utensils making self catering a pleasant experience. Heating provided by oil fired boiler, guests have access to timer and thermostat.

Situated just north of Bamburgh village Puffin Cottage is one of twelve converted farm buildings. It is surrounded by countryside and benefits from being just a short walk to the beach. This is a spectacular area, the scenery continually changes with the tides and the bay itself is a haven for bird lovers and watchers in Spring. Bamburgh is a historic village overlooked by the imposing Bamburgh Castle and not to be missed is the Grace Darling museum. Further afield this coastline is dotted with fabulous castle ruins, beautiful sandy beaches and interesting market towns such as Alnwick and Berwick all steeped in history but with modern amenities for intrepid travellers. Alnwick is home to Alnwick Castle featured in both Harry Potter films and Downton Abbey. The Alnwick gardens are an experience for all seasons with many special events taking place. Book lovers will loose themselves in Barter Books while the market square is home to many independant trading retailers. Cragside is an imposing National Trust Property close to Rothbury, a drive away but worth the trip. We are also blessed with many excellent place to eat out from local cafes to pubs and fine dining, also our independent butchers and bakers offer the best of local produce. The area is covered by much of the Northumberland national Park and Northumberland itself has recently been voted 'Best UK holiday county', come and see what you are missing!

I am not a native of Northumberland but love sharing its beauty and variety with guests who come to stay here. My intention is that everyone staying with us finds a warm welcome and has a really enjoyable and comfortable holiday.

Arrival instructions are sent approx 7 days before your stay. Keys are accessed via a safe box at the property. I live about 50 minutes away but have a local agent who will deal with any problems that arise during your stay. Whilst I am not there to meet you on arrival you receive clear instructions on how to access the cottage and there is loads of local tourist info, maps and ideas for days out in the literature we leave for guest to browse through.
