Small, compact bungalow home, homeowner occupied-1 story, 1 guestroom, 1 shared bathroom. Traveling health care professionals,St. Mary’s and ISU students for their
art and music therapy programs have all stayed here.

Experienced Airbnb travelers and dog owners will do well with home & Grayson, Norwegian Elkhound. Full of energy & active shedder. Excited on arrival, calms down nicely. Crate trained.

East side location, short drive to Union Hospital 3 miles to ISU.

Note: PLEASE READ to understand if this listing is for you:

Small compact home, bungalow cottage style. 950 square feet. Owner occupied, master bedroom and one guest room, shared one bathroom.

Medium sized dog, active shedder, on a scale from 1-5 with 5 being most, this is a 5 - this breed of dog is double coated and sheds, leaving fur balls that were vacuumed the night before but will appear again in the morning. Lint brushes provided. On average, vacuum every 3 days and just know you will still see dog hair. When sunlight shines on floor, wispy strands you will see.

This listing is best suited for experienced dog owners that are aware that dogs shed. Dog barks on arrival and is too excited on your arrival but calms down in 15 minutes and then is more calm and enjoyable to be around. The first couple of days he is crated while I am gone at work while you are here by yourself or errands until dog and guest are comfortable with each other. Then he free ranges to go out of doggie door to backyard. Doggie door is back door/kitchen are and no mud room. He loves guests and will try to get into the guest room so either the door can be closed or there is a pet gate that blocks his entrance.

Experienced Airbnb travelers preferred. Have had issues with first timers to Airbnb concept and misconception of listing. People who are comfortable in small spaces. The guest room is the room that is prepared for your stay. Shared spaces such as living room and kitchen are not set up as precise as the guestroom. The guest room is tidy and everything in its place. The shared areas reflect a working household, walking dog twice a day and real life errands in a compact space, this home is in motion and reflects a casual environment. This listing may not suit your needs depending on what you are looking for.

Further information:

Experienced host to traveling health care personnel.

Experienced with extended stay guests:

Elizabeth, a physical therapist from Texas on assignment at Union Hospital, was here 13 weeks in 2018. In 2019, Jackie from Vermont, also a physical therapist, enjoyed her 13 weeks on assignment and enjoyed Union.

In 2021, I had the pleasure of hosting Melissa, an RN working in the ICU at Union Hospital, on travel assignment. Melissa is from Porter County, Indiana, 3 hours away, and would work the night shift and sleep days from Thursday through Sunday.

Ages of guests have been from mid 20's to 40's and enjoy getting to know everyone that stays!

I have also hosted many ISU and St. Mary of the Woods College weekend program students for music and art therapy, etc., guests traveling for local festivals and events, weddings, work assignments, visiting friends and relatives.

What is in the Room:

Enjoy the guest room with a full-size, white cottage iron bed with duvet covered comforter.

Cable TV. Tray table for laptop work. Small refrigerator and coffee maker in the room.

There is a window air conditioner as well as a ceiling fan to help keep the room cooler during the warm weather. I tend to run cold so I keep the place warm.

For cooler weather enjoy an warm electric throw blanket and fireplace space heater to make the room extra cozy.

Hangers, guest towels, hamper, hair dryer, extra linens, full length mirror, are located in the comfort of the guest room.

Dog in the House:

Medium size dog, 54 lbs.

He is very excited and friendly on arrival and after a few minutes will settle down and will love getting a few minutes of attention from you! He is very well crate trained and is appropriately crated during your stay. In the evenings he is in my room so guests can come and go in the morning as they need to. He is an active shedder. A double coated breed, it is virtually impossible to eradicate all dog hair. Lint brushes provided.

Layout of Home:

PLEASE NOTE: There is not a private entrance to guest room. One must enter home to get to room. Home is 950 square feet. Bedrooms are close and separated by 8 foot hallway. The one bathroom is shared with homeowner and is in between rooms.

Entering the home the guest goes past the shared space of living and dining room to enter the guest room

A photo of the home will be sent before arrival/upon request.

For Review:

To review for the first time Airbnb guest as well as for the seasoned Airbnb traveler:

• 1940’s bungalow, 950 square feet. Inside there has been an update of
fixtures and painting, etc. Original floors that have character
squeaking... and shows dog hair, sigh.
• Homeowner lives in home and will be here during your stay.
• One bathroom, shared bathroom.
• There is no separate entry to house.
• Bedrooms are separated by one bathroom and a short 8 foot hallway.
• Entry to guest room is through living and dining room which are shared
• Guest is very much welcome to visit shared spaces during your stay but again,...this is a active dog home and not a hotel or bed and breakfast.
• Some kitchen use for light use prep and storage, although guest room does have a mini-fridge and is adequate for most use. Just note that kitchen is in use daily by home owner and reflects daily use. Not every dish will put away at times. For those staying longer, you will have access to store food in kitchen fridge.
Washer and dryer use for extended stays and is in basement. Basement can be wet at times, please bring extra shoes to leave at top of stairs.
• Shared space for this listing is living and dining room – while there is no formal definition of shared space from Airbnb website - for this listing it will be defined as the normal lived-in feel and appearance of a typical home. This is a dog home.

Comes with Puppy Kisses:

• Grayson, my Norwegian Elkhound is 4 years old lives in the home and is excited to meet you!
• He is very friendly and cuddly puppy. Upon arrival he will be very excited for a few minutes and then calms down.
• A medium size, double-coated, active breed, sheds. I vacuum on average every 3 days while guest is here. The nature of shedding is difficult to vacuum even every day to capture all so please note stray strands and small fur balls.
• The guest room is off-limits to Grayson with a pet gate so you can enjoy your space while you’re are here!
• Grayson is crated appropriately during your stay and stays in my room in the evenings.
• While not a consistent barker, he does bark on occasion.
• Homeowner works during the work week of Mon thru Friday and comes home for lunch during the day to check-in on pups.

Other items to note:

• Please no other guests in room.
• No alcohol or other substances in room.

At this time as dog is too full of energy, other pups traveling will have to visit when Grayson is older.

Check-in time frame of 6 to 9:30 pm.

For those flying into Indiana, inquire on later arrival.

I am an Airbnb host since 2017 and I thoroughly enjoy hosting! The reasons are many for guests staying: I enjoy a guest for coming overnight for a wedding or an interview, or the people that come for three for four days - most of my 3-4 day stays are people attending their in-person portion of the art and music therapy program from St. Mary of the Woods, or hosting ISU potential students when they come to visit to check out the campus.

I also have also hosted to Physical Therapists on travel assignment, usually to Union Hospital. Elizabeth, a 25 year old PT from Texas stayed 13 weeks in 2018, and Jackie, 38, from Vermont stayed 13 weeks in 2019!

I work at a local non-profit and enjoy helping the community.

In addition, I am a foodie and movie goer whenever possible.

I follow the lead from guests on their amount of interaction whether it's conversational or just wanting quiet downtime.

I enjoy meeting people from all walks of life and from all over the country.

My home residence is cozy and has character with updated features of kitchen and bathroom and soothing color pallets throughout the home and guest room.
