Of course we have all the basics you can expect from a hostel: kitchen, lounge area, 24/7 reception, etc …

What we excel into is our customer service: you see, most hostels go into one of 2 extremes: either they are way too friendly (thus forgetting to be efficient) or either they are way too efficient (thus becoming a boring hotel). That is not the point of a hostel: you do not travel not to have a decent service or to meet new people right ?

There are many kinds of backpackers: starting from the one who’s on a tight budget and have to save every penny in order to be able to travel for months in a row and going all the way up to couples who are a bit tired of sleeping in dorms and want a well deserved break in a comfortable (but not luxurious or expensive) en suite private room.

We get it, we really do. That is why Tupiniquim was designed to give you as many choices as possible. Our job is to make sure you get the best room for your needs. The best bang for your buck. And trust me: we are very good at our job, of course: we have been doing that for the last 13 years :p

Central location to all major attractions:
• 4 min. subway (one station) to Copacabana Beach.
• 10 min. subway (4 stations) to Ipanema Beach.
• 12 min. subway (5 stations) to all the Historical Downtown of Rio.
• 15 min. bus to Lapa, Domestic Airport (Santos-Dumont), Lagoa, Botanical Garden and the Sugar Loaf Mountain.
• 25 min. bus to the Statue of Christ the Redeemer.
• 30 min. subway (12 stations) to the Maracanã Stadium.
• 40 min. bus to the Central Bus Station (Rodoviária)
• 50 min. bus or taxi to the International Airport (Galeão)
• 70 min. bus to Barra da Tijuca Beach.

Botafogo is the best neighborhood for you to stay because buses run through here the whole night, subways go until midnight and it is a very safe neighborhood ... if you are like 99 % of the tourists here in Rio you will like to visit all these touristic spots I've just mentioned hence is better to stay central unless you are addicted to football (in that case you should stay in Zona Norte, near Engenhão and Maracanã but far from everything), or addicted to party (better stay in Lapa, but you won't be able to sleep), or addicted to beaches (better stay in Ipanema, and get ready to spend all your money 'cause it is very very expensive) ... yes my friend, if you stay in Lapa it will be far from the beaches and the Sugar Loaf, if you stay on the beaches it will be far from Lapa and Christ the Redeemer ... take my advice, better to stay close to everything in a superb place in Rio de Janeiro.

Tupiniquim is about the experience of being in Brazil, our cook only makes regional Brazilian food, our film selection has an emphasis for Brazilian cult films, the music that we play is selected among the best in Brazil, we call it 'brasilidade' in Portuguese and our goal is to make you feel that by the end of your stay.

Tupiniquim is also about quality. Given the few resources that hostels usually have, we make the best out of them, our customer support level is unheard of ... think of Leonidas and his 300 Spartans, they were in another league compared to the Greeks of their times, so are we in hostel management. Of course, that does not mean that we are by all means perfect, not in the slightest all, it only means that we try to improve by the minute, we have been like that for the last 10 years.

We, the owners, live here at Tupiniquim so if there is a problem in the hostel we instantly notice it, we are in the same boat as you so if things go south we suffer just the same as you. (that seldom happens btw)

But Tupiniquim at it’s core is a very Brazilian hostel, and a good Brazilian is before anything helpful, cheerful and always in a party vibe !! I am pretty sure you’ll love it :)

We are really into samba, good movies, good food, a good chat and always good music, I know: we sound really cool :) Being like that my friend is an art, not fit for amateurs

Having said that it’s important to understand that this a business, we support many families with this. So there is a line that cannot be crossed ok ??
