Make bread and brunch with a trained chef

In this super-charged BRUNCH class, I’ll teach you how to make an easy homemade sourdough bread from scratch without the hassle of a sourdough starter. You will enjoy this bread several ways for brunch alongside other dishes. Besides the bread, we’ll also make fresh ricotta cheese, tartines, and perfect French omelets—made with Petaluma’s famous eggs. The experience will be hands-on and you will learn some valuable cooking skills and tips in this robust class—and at the end of the class you’ll get to take home the loaf of bread you baked, to enjoy later as a delicious souvenir.

This is a great class for beginners, or intermediate bakers, as well as for people who want to learn many general cooking tips, and who want to enjoy a delicious 4-course brunch with a complimentary glass of California bubbly.

This is not a class for people who want to make sourdough bread with a starter.

This IS an experience for someone who is hungry for both knowledge and great food.

I’m a trained chef and lifelong cooking enthusiast with a background in hotel food and beverage management. I went to culinary school in San Francisco and have lived all over the country and traveled extensively throughout North America and Europe, always seeking out the best and most interesting dishes. I’m passionate about food and love to share my knowledge with others.

I have been teaching these cooking classes for nearly two years, about 3 times a week, so I have lots of experience to make these events flow smoothly for you.

We’ll be cooking in my centrally air-conditioned house in Petaluma, California, situated in lower Sonoma County. Petaluma was once known as the “Egg Capital of the World”—and is now the hub of the farm-to-table movement in Sonoma.

We will pick herbs in my garden, and you will get to meet our two cute dogs who will even do tricks for you if you wish.

Folding bar stools are available if you need to sit for part of the class. Just ask!

What a fantastic experience! I highly recommend taking this class and any other class Juli offers. She and her husband Walt are so kind and welcoming, and immediately put both my boyfriend and me at ease. The three hours passed SO quickly we could hardly believe it, and we left feeling confident about making our own homemade sourdough (in two different ways!) as well as preparing homemade ricotta and French omelettes. I also want to note how comfortable we felt spending time with two new friends in a small gathering even during these stressful times—it was clear that their kitchen and home was super clean and well-maintained, and their obvious attention to small details made it easy to feel safe and comfortable. Juli and Walt included so many special touches that made the experience feel gourmet, thoughtful, and exciting. She laid out a myriad of delicious homemade toppings for our tartines (smoked trout, dried persimmons, foraged fennel pollen (!!!), edible flowers, and so much more). And she made sure that our many medically necessary dietary restrictions were met (no easy feat)! Juli and Walt are so generous as well—they offered us some chestnut honey from their personal pantry, and made sure we got sent home with tons of goodies. We left with two loaves of freshly baked bread, some instant yeast, homemade crystallized ginger, sourdough starter, shower caps to cover our future batches of rising dough, recipe printouts, recommendations for fun in Petaluma, happy stomachs, and lots of good memories. :)

This experience was so incredible. Juli and Walter were fabulous hosts. This was a humble, genuine cooking experience in their home. We learned so many General cooking tips, so much about bread, omelettes and MORE. We will certainly be doing another class with them in the future :)

This was a fantastic experience. Juli has a small house and a small kitchen but that did not matter. She is super organized and thoughtful in her delivery which made the experience A1+ She is a SUPER host - everything thought out in advance. She is super knowledgeable and the bread was AMAZING!! She made everything seem easy to do. We made homemade ricotta which was outstanding. She shared tips of the trade - she really wants us to be successful. I would definitely participate in another experience with Juli and her husband was super special as well. He was funny and helpful. I definitely recommend this experience if you want to learn to make bread, ricotta and the best french omelet!!

This was so much more than I expected. Yes - we did everything as described, but Juli is a seasoned professional and was very happy to share tips and tricks from her years of experience. That was really special.

This experience was fantastic! So educational and delicious. She will make you rethink how you cook eggs and also what kind of butter you purchase. We loved it and even our friend who has zero (not worst cooks in America level, just saying) cooking experience enjoyed it. Sign up now! You won't regret it. However, even though this is brunch I highly recommend you don't anticipate eating for at least an hour into the class.
